چکیده

El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Interdecadal Pacific Oscillations (IPO), and their phase relation with the Annular Mode (SAM) largely control Antarctic climate variability. The relative roles of these modes remain elusive, particularly in backdrop global warming. In this study, we present a seasonally resolved new ice core (IND33) record oxygen isotope (? 18 O) for past two centuries (1809–2013 CE) from coastal Dronning Maud Land (DML) to investigate role temperature variability trend. Our investigation based on combined available records DML region reveals that ?32% ? O is related late spring summer (Nov–Dec–Jan) rather than mean annual temperature. This indicates reconstructed could be biased toward months/seasons higher precipitation low-moderate wind speed, which are suitable better preservation signal. We have (1809–2019 at an resolution (1809–1993 recent ERA5 surface air (1994–2019 CE). anomaly significant cooling trend 19th century during 1809–1907 CE rate ?0.164 ± 0.045°C decade ?1 followed by warming mid-20th early 21st (1942–2019 +0.452 0.056°C . long-term since 1940s coincides increase ENSO events its strong antiphase SAM, suggesting increasing influence SAM–ENSO coupling modulating decades.

Cholera dynamics and El Niño-Southern Oscillation.

Analysis of a monthly 18-year cholera time series from Bangladesh shows that the temporal variability of cholera exhibits an interannual component at the dominant frequency of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Results from nonlinear time series analysis support a role for both ENSO and previous disease levels in the dynamics of cholera. Cholera patterns are linked to the previously described...

El Niño-Southern Oscillation frequency cascade.

The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon, the most pronounced feature of internally generated climate variability, occurs on interannual timescales and impacts the global climate system through an interaction with the annual cycle. The tight coupling between ENSO and the annual cycle is particularly pronounced over the tropical Western Pacific. Here we show that this nonlinear interac...

Waves of El Niño-Southern Oscillation and Influenza Pandemics

Influenza pandemics has occurred at irregular intervals for over 500 years, unlike seasonal influenza epidemics which occur annually. Although the risk factors are known, the basis for the timing of influenza pandemic waves are unknown. Coherence of peaks of El Niño and influenza pandemic in 2009–2010, however, suggest that both waves are coupled. This study was done to determine the relation o...

Highly variable El Niño-Southern Oscillation throughout the Holocene.

The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) drives large changes in global climate patterns from year to year, yet its sensitivity to continued anthropogenic greenhouse forcing is uncertain. We analyzed fossil coral reconstructions of ENSO spanning the past 7000 years from the Northern Line Islands, located in the center of action for ENSO. The corals document highly variable ENSO activity, with no...
